Amir Reza Koohestani
Biography
The Iranian theater maker Amir Reza Koohestani (1978, Shiraz), after gaining experience as a performance artist and filmmaker, founded the “Mehr Theatre Group” in Tehran in 2001, which helped him achieve his international breakthrough. After spending two years studying in Manchester, he returned to Tehran, where he continued to work on his pieces, which he has been presenting throughout Europe for the past fifteen years. Koohestani tours Europe with plays such as “Amid the Clouds”, “Timeloss” and “Hearing”, showing them not only in Iran but also in Belgium, France, Switzerland, Germany and Italy. In Germany, he has staged productions at the Staatstheater Darmstadt, the Theater Freiburg and the Münchner Kammerspiele, among others. In December 2020, he staged Georg Büchner's drama “Woyzeck”, which not only drew attention to femicides, but also took up one of the most famous works of German literature.
