Biennale Urbana
Biography
The Italian artist collective Biennale Urbana (aka BUrb) was founded in 2014 by Giulia Mazzorin, Lorenzo Romito and Andrea Curtoni. They work in the fields of architecture, design and art. BUrb is inspired by Documenta Urbana, a project realized by Lucius and Annemarie Burckhardt in Kassel between 1980 and 1982 to test the revitalization of abandoned and unused spaces in the city by combining artistic production with the real needs of the urban context. Since 2022 BUrb – today consisting of Giulia Mazzorin, Andrea Curtoni and Andrea DeLorenzo – has been head of the raum&designstrategien department at the University of Art and Design Linz. In 2023, the Venice-based collective was assigned by the Tangente St. Pölten - Festival for Contemporary Culture to design the festival center. "Our aim is to develop a space full of unusual, novel elements, the presence of which forces us to think about our world in a fundamentally different way," is how the architects describe their working process. It was opened on April 30th 2024.
