Joana und Aljoscha Tischkau
Biography
The professions of Joana Tischkau and her twin brother Aljoscha Tischkau (1983, Göttingen) couldn't be more different – Aljoscha is a school teacher and social worker, Joana is a choreographer, performer and theater artist – but they share an interest in pop culture, music, especially hip-hop and sports. Joana Tischkau's choreographic practice feeds on the interweaving of Black identity in Germany, feminism and popular culture. With her works "What. Yeah.", "Playblack", "Being Pink Ain't Easy" she tours throughout Europe. Her pieces impress with their compulsive desire to dress up, masquerade, play and dance, which immediately destroys any hint of didactic instruction. In "Yo Bro", Joana Tischkau, together with Aljoscha Tischkau, questions common, normative representations of family by playfully taking up and distorting them. Using the performative potential of their bodies, they create images of similarity and otherness and thus retell family history(ies).
