Solektiv
Biography
Solektiv is a cultural center located in the south of St. Pölten It is situated in the 5-hectare Sonnenpark area. The center is a structural theme park that includes the Mobile City Laboratory designed by the Vienna University of Technology as well as workshops, exhibition and club rooms. Due to the symbiosis of subculture and ecology, which is unique in Austria, the creative biotope was awarded the Outstanding Artist Award by the Federal Ministry for Art, Culture and the Civil Service in 2021. As a public open space, the Sonnenpark can look back on a successful history of civic engagement: it took a petition signed by 2,000 St. Pölten citizens to reverse a decision to sell the self-managed local recreation area. As a contribution to the expansion of the existing infrastructure, the cultural center has since been making rooms available for communal use. In addition, Solektiv offers a low-threshold ecological education program for kindergartens and school classes. The cultural center emerged a few years ago from the merger of the Lames and Sonnenpark associations, and in 2024 the 25th anniversary of our founding association Lames is celebrated.
