The Way of the Water

Mit Performances, Ritualen am Wasser, Gesprächen und Diskussionen wurde der Kunstparcours The Way of the Water zu einem der Highlights der Eröffnungstage der Tangente St. Pölten. The Way of the Water ist das Hauptprojekt bildender Kunst des Festivals. 24 Positionen nationaler und internationaler Künstler*innen zeigen eindrücklich, was es bedeutet, wenn künstlerische Arbeiten im Dialog mit dem Wasser entstehen.

Für die Sommersonnenwende, am 21. und 22. September hat die Kuratorin Lorena Moreno Vera ein außergewöhnliches Programm mit Touren und Aktionen entlang des Kunstparcours zusammengestellt, zu dem sie gemeinsam mit dem Team der Tangente St. Pölten herzlich einlädt.

 

Mühlbacherinnen, Flußbettwanderung und Rechte der Natur am 22. Juni
Der Samstag startet mit einem Spaziergang mit dem Kollektiv Neonpink, das unter dem Titel “Mühlbacherinnen” Geschichten von Frauen entlang der ehemaligen Schwemmstellen am Mühlbach gesammelt und als Audio-Walk für den Kunstparcours konzipiert hat. Zu Mittag findet im Sonnenpark ein Konzert samt Aktion der Künstlerin Roberta Lazo Valenzuela mit Gast-Percussionist:innen statt.
Um 13 Uhr lädt der Künstler Filip van Dingenen zu einer Erkundung des Flussbetts der Traisen ein.

Ab 15 Uhr geht es weiter im Festivalzentrum der Tangente St. Pölten mit Geschichten über das Wasser, seine Bewohner*innen und verschlungenen Pfade. Von Talks mit den Künstlerinnen Christina Gruber und Klara Hobza sowie der Wasserökologin Gertrud Haidvogl oder Gregor Gravogl vom NÖ Landesfischereiverband) bis hin zu Filmen, die die Rechte der Natur beleuchten, reicht das vielfältige Programm. Nach dem Film „That Summer of '22“ von Lorenzo Sandoval über die Bedrohung eines Ökosystems in Nordspanien diskutiert zum Abschluss eine hochkarätige Runde, darunter Teresa Vicente, Professorin für Rechtsphilosophie und Direktorin des Lehrstuhls für Menschenrechte und Naturrechte an der Universidad de Murcia, der Künstler Lorenzo Sandoval und Michaela Krömer der auf Klimakrise und Migration spezialisierten Kanzlei Krömer (St. Pölten/Wien).

Der Eintritt ist frei, Gäste von jung bis alt sind willkommen!

Meeting Point: Unter dem Eschenbaum im Sonnenpark
Dieser Akt des Begehens und Erspürens eines Flussbetts ist als pädagogischer Rahmen angelegt. Wir versuchen zu verstehen, was wir Menschen vom Flussbett, seinen Pflanzen, seinem Fluss und seiner Energie lernen können, angefangen bei der Quelle und der Erinnerung, die es in sich birgt, bis hin zum Strom zwischen unseren Zehen.

Elisabeth Gallón Droste (Bogota, Colombia, 1991) Artistic researcher based in Berlin. She develops fieldwork-based research by combining different media. Her work focuses on the stories told and sung by the territo-rivers and the ecosystems they weave, composed of multiple beings, materialities, traces, and layers. Based on relational temporalities, dream and sensory realms, memories and affection, as well as practices and repertoires that enact multiple worlds, Elizabeth builds listening processes that contextualize and respond to socio-environmental conflicts from everyday life and networked actions and potentials, to nurture imaginaries of care, reparation and alternative becomings. She is currently a PhD candidate in Anthropology at the Freie Universität Berlin, with the project "Vocear Ríos" [Voicing Rivers]. Elizabeth has participated in artistic research spaces such as Meandering at TBA21 Academy in Cordoba (2023), documenta15 in Kassel (2022), and ars electronica in Linz (2022). Among her recent publications is the book Útica, bajo el arrullo de las aguas (2023). Currently, with ~pes, they activate listening sessions, participatory actions through hydrophonic tuning and mimetic acts of reciprocity with bodies of water. Teresa Vicente Giménez, Professor of Philosophy of Law, is Deputy Director of the Center for Cooperation and Development Studies (CECODE) of the University of Murcia. She is also Director of the Chair of Human Rights and Rights of Nature of the same University. Her teaching and research profile as a professor of Philosophy of Law is “Theory of Justice and Human Rights”. In this area, she has researched specifically on the new paradigm of Ecological Justice and the Rights of Nature. In this context, she has participated as a speaker in international and national congresses, conferences, and seminars, and has been invited to international meetings. She is the author of numerous publications addressing ecological justice, the rights of children, social rights, and the rights of Nature, among many others. Teresa Vicente Giménez has been the leader of the Iniciativa Legislativa Popular (ILP) or Popular Legislative Initiative in Murcia that seeks to give legal personality to the Mar Menor lagoon and his entire basin. Mar Menor is the largest saltwater lake in Europe and has come under threat mainly due to water contamination resulting from the unchecked growth of agriculture and waters have become choked with algae. The 639,826 signatures gathered by the citizen movement throughout Spain became the key to open the process that will recognize the legal personality of Mar Menor. She defended before the Commission for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge of Congress the proposal of law to recognize the legal personality of the Mar Menor, and, on 5 April 2022, the Spanish Congress of Deputies overwhelmingly voted to expedite drafting of a law so that Mar Menor will have legal personality thus becoming the first ecosystem in Europe with his own rights.In 2024 she was awarded with the Goldman Environmental Prize. 

 

 

Lorenzo Sandoval is an artist, filmmaker and curator. His practice spans different disciplines, creating spaces for encounter through his art works, films, architectural pieces and collaborations. He researches on the connections between textiles, computation and image production, in relation with systems of redistribution with the long-term project Shadow Writing.  The project has been featured at LABoral Gijón (2017), Nottingham Contemporary (2018), Museo Amano in Lima (2019), Göteborg Biennial (2019), Centro Párraga, IVAM Alcoi (2019), Centro Párraga (2020) and Kindl in Berlin (2023) among others. Together with Tono Vízcaino, they presented ‘Industria. Matrices, tramas y sonidos’ at IVAM in 2021. He was part of  “Here History Began. Tracing the Re/Verberations of Halim El-Dabh” at SAVVY Contemporary. 'Canine Wisdom for the Barking Dog. Exploring the sonic cosmologies of Halim El Dabh'at Dak'art Biennale 2018.  Sandoval was part of the Miracle Workers Collective representing Finland in the Venice Biennale in 2019. In 2018, he started the research for his current film and art project “Aquel Verano del 22”, exploring the connections between mining in La Unión, construction in La Manga and agroindustry in Mar Menor, in relation to the rights of nature. In 2015, Sandoval founded The Institute for Endotic Research (TIER).
