Wasteland. The Great Simplification

Description
„Wasteland is a place where you change when entering. In Wasteland things are possible that normally don’t seem possible.”
Susanne Kennedy and Markus Selg activate the wasteland behind the Glanzstoff factory and stage an expanded reality there for Tangente St. Pölten. The audience is immersed in an experiential space with a logic all its own. Here past, present and future meet. Time and being. Reality and virtual reality. Remaining relics from past times and of past rituals. Only the memory remains. Echoes. Wasteland. The landscape itself as a stage. Sun, water, wind, earth, plants and animals are its protagonists. Sporadically, people wander through this landscape, sit by the fire, talk, listen to the music.
Where is the boundary between staging and reality? How much stage do we need in order to experience our lives as a production? Are we ourselves the actors or are they playing for us?
The theatre director Susanne Kennedy has renewed Western theatre in a unique way with her aesthetics. Her works question what it means to be human. Markus Selg is a multimedia artist who explores the overlap of ancient mythology, digital technology and consciousness. In his works, he explores the possibilities of living in a world that has transformed into a constant flow of data and information. Susanne Kennedy and Markus Selg have been working together since 2016.
“Wasteland” is their first collaboration with the musician Debit, who combinded Mayan instruments with the futural technologies of artificial intelligence on her album.
